I LOVE airshows. I've seen a C-17 Globemaster (it reversed on the runway - very cool), an SR-71 Blackbird, a Lockheed U-2 (actually, I live near Beale AFB, so I've seen them fly over several times), the Blue Angels, MiGs, and a Yak, but have NEVER seen girls on the wings of biplanes! I'm so jealous. Your photos are great!
My grandmother went to two airshows, both of which had fatal crashes. She refused to go to another one...
Laurie - I'm just amazed so many pictures came out. Having said that, I've got some very nice photos of clouds and sky where a plane was too fast for me. Never yet seen a Blackbird IRL.
I've seen two - one at Beale AFB, and the other at the Udvar-Hazy Center of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum (I think you commented on my post about that). You'll have to come and visit! Or at least go to Washington DC.
Apropos almost nothing - Bill and I were watching the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon last night and they showed the first Mercury suborbital flight with Alan Shepard, and I said, "I've seen that space capsule!" and burst into tears. I get very emotional about flying things. Apparently.
WOW! GREAT PICS!! I could totally do that "perform on the wings of a bi-plane" stunt thingy. I am just very busy so I can't find the time.
My mom worked for Lockheed almost her entire career, so I've seen some very cool air shows and have been up close and personal to some very amazing planes...including a retired Stealth bomber. THAT was super sweet.
On a vaguely related note, my dad worked for JPL and was given the honor one year of being the head of a security detail that escorted the space shuttle back to Florida (via THE GROUND) after it couldn't land there and had to come down at Edwards in California instead. He said being up close and personal to the shuttle was one of the most amazing experiences of his life.
Laurie: Your poor grandma. Having that happen just once would be horrible enough.

Off point a little but how on earth did you fit the body of an 18 year old under your floorboards? Your hoose must be of a vastness!!!
ReplyDeleteI watched the planes from Seton Sands, cos I'm a proper Scotchman and am far too cheap to buy a ticket.
ReplyDeleteMy first and last air-show was at the ripe old age of 3, when I wandered off and got lost on a crowded beach, leaving me with deep emotional scars.
ReplyDeleteCool pictures, though. Kinda makes me want to work up the courage to go to another one.
Lesley - I'm sure you're very supple. Also, I'm totally jealous of your parents.
ReplyDeleteTaffeta - We have a trapdoor under the bedroom carpet. True story.
Mr H - You make me so proud! *sniff*
Cofo - Wear a hat with a wide brim, I've got sunburnt shoulders.
YOu can't fool me Mr. Farty - it's you! Someone hand me my reading glasses....
ReplyDeleteLady M - You are too kind.
