More Random Crap

EyesSorry for not posting sooner, I've had my eyes glued to the TV and it took this long for the solvent to do its thing.

So. How are you? Really? How nice/terrible. Anyway.

I loved this article where the Ozzie PM, Kevin Rudd, reckons excessive pay packages for fat cat bank execs should be outlawed globally, because: "excessive greed by executives in some financial institutions had worsened the current crisis". Yeah. Let that sink in...now, can anyone splain the difference between ordinary common-or-garden greed and excessive greed? 'Cause it's all greed to me.

Some bint from Michigan has driven all the way to Nebraska to dump her thirteen-year-old son on the welfare system. If he's such a handful, why not just wait till he goes out on a shoplifting expedition or whatever, then move house without leaving a forwarding address? It totally worked for my cousin ****** [deleted on legal advice].

Oh. There's this Merkan blogger called Dooce. What an odd name. Apparently she's quite popular, but I've never really "got" her until last week, when she posted this. As she says, turn up your volume and wait for her to smack the pole. Fucking A.

Don't forget to tune in for Farty's Friday Chart. Toot toot!

  2. Shit, that was NOT NICE! I will not sleep tonight, Farty...

re: the Nebraska story, the last line was the best: ""This is not what we intended when we said we wanted to increase Nebraska tourism," he was quoted by the Omaha World-Herald newspaper as saying." And it always amuses me when Brits say stuff like "driven for 12 hours across the US", as though that's a long way. Michigan is only 3 states from Nebraska...

P.S.: do you really say "fucking A"? 'Cause I say that all the time, and I'm not sure where I picked it up...

  3. Hi Mr. Farty,

I'm pretty good. Thanks for asking.

  4. As for people earning big fat salaries, I think teachers, health & security [as in police, etc] should be top paid. Far more than bankers.

  5. Marie - You're welcome.

#Debi - I'll admit I was a bit taken aback when I was asked, in Raleigh, NC, if I wanted to visit the mountains - 200 miles west - or the coast - 200 miles east - for the weekend. The Outer Banks are fucking A, btw.
And yes, we really do say that.

BC - Glad to hear it.

GG - As a finance industry worker, I totally agree. Will it happen any time soon? I doubt it.

  6. In the books that I am currently reading (have I mentioned them yet?:)), there is a quote that I quite like. Paraphrased it is: The difference between Brits and Merkans is that one thinks 100 miles is a long way, and the other thinks that 100 years is a long time.

  7. #Debi - Oh, I like it! Did I mention that my high school was founded at least as early as 1128AD, under the guidance of the Abbot of Holyrood? Apparently the Vatican has records going back even further, but we haven't found them yet.
