  1. Ummm....I am assuming the object on the right is food. So...let me guess....food is going to be more expensive than gold pretty soon?

  4. I know it.... how old does that make me???

Hint: You can see it on the dark side of the moon.

  5. Jacki - That would be Shed Seven - Ocean Pie: "You're worth your weight in gold nom nom nom".

    But no.

John - The joke's even older than Keith(!), but still popular. Ask him.

    Brom - Man, you're old!!!

  6. Is that some kind of a teeter-totter?

    ReplyDelete
  7. VE - A teeter-whatter?

*thinks - another one for the dictionary, sigh*

  8. Teeter-totter = seesaw

The joke must be so old that I haven't heard it.

Is that a muffin on the right?

hurry up and tell us the answer...it's raining again and we may have to move to higher ground
(not really...just wanting to make you hurry!!!)

  12. @dkuroiwa, I don't think you do know the band!

Interesting observation you made though ;-)

Sorry Farty old chap - not that I'm trying to take over or anything.

  13. Brom - I'll have to figure out how to post comments to Blogger from a moby, I've been following this chat all day like a lurker.

    #Debi - Not a muffin, but a pork pie.

Lola D - Definitely not a band, although it's been covered by the odd solo artist now and then. Can't think of any off the top of my head right now.

    *cough*

    Ok, a clue:

If you want to weigh a whale, you take it to a whale-weigh station.
But where do you go to weigh a pie?

    ReplyDelete
  14. okay....so...WTF?
The "dark side of the moon" reference threw me....automatically thought of Pink Floyd.
hmmmm...am now wondering if Brom is an actual person or one of your "other" personalities that has come out to play and mess with out heads!

and really....since i'm not a marine bioligist or anything like that, were there ever come a time that i would actually need to weigh a whale?
    but....i'll play...a pie-weigh station....hmmm....pie-way....hmmmm.
and I was going to say, 'If meat pies were gold, we'd all be rich.'
    (but i don't think that's a song...)

  15. oops....mess with OUR heads...not 'out' heads...that would just be weird.

  16. I often wonder if I'm an actual person - so that makes two of us, nice to meet you.

You are on the track with the album, you are just looking at it the wrong way. I thought you would have it covered by now.

Farty, hope you had a good time wherever you went to.

  17. Lola - FSM forbid that we should mess with your head, it wouldn't be fair to pick on a poor farm girl who's been plucked from the Merkan midwest and then dumped unceremoniously in the middle of a foreign land. As it were.

Brom - I thought she would have got it by now, too. After all, it's been covered by at least one of her favourite artists...but I shan't say which one >;>

  18. Don't feel bad, Angela-la-la, I was going to guess Life is a Pie-way...

    ReplyDelete
  19. ...or maybe I Did It Pie Way...

    :)

  20. Gosh Mr. Farty...it touches my soul to see how well you know me..~~sniff sniff~~(can i quote you?)
Brom...I'm doin' the best i can...cut a girl some slack! Is this a "guy" thing...something only people with 'dangly bits' will understand??

    Life is a Pie-way...
I Did It Pie Way....wait...how about
"Lucy in the Pie with Diamonds"...
but that has absolutely nada to do with that picture.
damn...she typed with one hand, waving a white flag with the other.

  21. I guess you should tell her Mr. F.

One last clue - Richie Blackmore.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fussy - On noes, not the pie puns!

#Debi - No, but Old Blue Eyes did sing a cover of this one.

Lola - I only had to click on your profile; a name like Israel Kamakawaiwo'ole kind of jumps out at you.

Brom - Oh, there's lots more clues.

Not Dust in the Wind, although there's a Kansas connection.

And not Africa, Hold the Line or Rosanna, even though the group that sang those songs should ring a bell, as Pavlov would say.

But it has been covered by Kylie Minogue, the pop princess from the Land of *cough* Down Under.

And everyone from Leona Lewis to Eva Cassidy, from Carly Simon to Tori Amos, from Lisa Minnelli to Ted's Band from Scrubs.

    Listen to the second line.

  23. Gaaaah. FINALLY I get it.

You are an evil genius, Mr F.

  24. Lucy - I'll take that as a compliment ;-)

  25. OK, I still am stumped! Will you spell it out for the mentally challenged over here? *waves hand*

  26. I stopped by because i was reading VE and figured out you were Scottish. Love the wayuphigh! You are a clever guy!

  27. #Debi - I am genuinely surprised that you still don't get it, but let's examine the evidence.

We open with a set of scales. On one balance, we have a weight; on the other, a scrumptious pork pie.

Where do you go to weigh a pie?

It's an old joke, because the song was written in 1939.

You can see it on the album cover of Dark Side of the Moon.

Then there was the comment about a poor farm girl - let's call her Dorothy - who's been plucked from the Merkan midwest - perhaps Kansas - and then dumped unceremoniously in the middle of a foreign land - like Oz.

It's been covered by at least one of Lola's favourite artists, which are listed on her profile and include Israel Kamakawaiwo'ole.

Richie Blackmore was a founding member of Rainbow.

Dust in the Wind was sung by Kansas.

Africa, Hold the Line and Rosanna were all hits for Toto.

Kylie Minogue is the pop princess from Oz.tralia.

In the film "The Wizard of Oz", Dorothy and her dog Toto are transported by a tornado from Kansas to the land of Oz. In the film, Liza Minnelli's mom Judy Garland sings (all together now):

    Somewhere over the rainbow
    Weigh a pie...
